Federal Tax Reforms Will Damage Our Businesses in Melfort & area
Federal tax changes are on the horizon – the greatest in 50 years – and will damage businesses that form the backbone of many Canadian communities.
These proposed changes will negatively impact tens of thousands of businesses by raising taxes, reducing incentive for private investment, increasing administrative burdens, and making it even more difficult for a business to be transferred from one generation to the next. Ottawa has taken the position that all income is created equal, without recognizing the important reasons why money earned by a business is inherently different than regular income.
The Liberal and Conservative caucuses meet immediately after Labour Day and the Chambers of Commerce across Canada are aiming to have MPs go to the meetings with businesses’ comments in hand. We NEED to hear from you!
To help you understand the changes and the impact it may have, following is a Proposed Federal Tax Changes Impact summary paper as well as the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Summary and Recommendations.
If you have any comments, stories, or anxious notes from your accountant about how these tax changes will negatively impact your business, please send them to us.
This is the feedback our government needs to hear.
As a Chamber, we are using all avenues to advocate for our members against the proposed changes to business taxation. These sweeping changes, and the short consultation period, are issues of great concern to us as an organization that represents business, and we need our member input.
To this end, we have created an online petition, which allows you to have your opinion heard by Saskatchewan's MP's.
Following is a template letter for your use to fill in your own story and send to your local MP as soon as possible. The Liberal Party of Canada’s rationale for these changes is weak. Help us stop the fight now.
Monday - Thursday 9 am - 5 pm Friday 9 am - 3 pm (closed from 12 - 1 pm for lunch)
