Melfort
& District Chamber of Commerce Inc. launches essential
skills training in partnership with Career & Employment
Services
In an effort to address essential skill
deficiencies and the current entry-level labour shortage, the
Melfort & District Chamber of Commerce, in partnership
with Career & Employment Services will be leading a four-week
training initiative through the Tourism
Essentials Certificate Program (STEC) ~ a
facilitated and practical approach to learning essential skills
for employment.
Jennifer Hill will be the course
facilitator and will be spending the next couple of weeks planning
and coordinating both the classroom sessions and practical work
experience on the job site. Beginning February 22nd, our
Chamber board room will be converted into a classroom for 4 weeks
of essential skills training. A Job Coach will be
hired as well to assist with the classroom work as well as
mentoring the practical component of this program.
Members!
We are in need of work placements for eight students.
Each student must attain 30 hours of on-the-job experience to
graduate. Work placements must be between February 25
- March 19. If you could use extra help (unpaid) in
your store, restaurant, shop, organization, etc. and are
interested in leading the way to mentoring students
as they gain new knowledge and experience to be productive
employees, please contact the Melfort & District
Chamber of Commerce as soon as possible. We are happy to
answer all your questions and address any concerns.
Please phone 752-4636.
